Résumé : |
Phytosociology is considered a basic biological science to be applied in concepts and realisation of land management. The significance of vegetation maps at various scales is explained. Three examples of phytosociological studies applied to land management and physical planning are discussed: 1.Plan for a new town, i.e., the city of Louvain-le-Neuve, where the new French-language University of Louvain is situated. Here, a vegetation map comprising of 27 communities was established for an area of 5,000 ha. 2.Plan for a recreation area surrounding a small village, La Roche-en-Ardenne. 3.Plan for agricultural improvement in an area of 2,000 ha in the Haneffe-Jeneffe region. Here, a biological evaluation was taken as the basis, with criteria such a floristic richness, rarity of species and ecotope diversity. All vegetation studies were carried out by the Laboratory for Plant Ecology of the Catholic University of Louvain. |
