Different methods were tested to evaluate their effectiveness as dormancy breaking agents. The influence of light on germination was also analyzed, as well as the temporal evolution of the germinative process over the experimental period. The study was carried out by subjecting the seeds to the action of two agents: sulphuric acid and boiling water. The former showed a high effectiveness for scarification in the subtribe Genistinae, and the latter in Lupininae. It was also demonstrated that with respect to the effect of light, in general terms, the Genisteae studied here were indifferent. In the course of the experimental period (30 days), two different germinative patterns could be distinguished: (a) one with a very rapid germination rate at the beginning of the process, which indicates a rapid imbibition phase, and (b) another with a delayed onset indicating a slower mode of imbibition. Titre : Taxonomy and breeding system in a new species of Scophularia L. (Scrophulariaceae) from Morocco Type de document : Imprimé Auteurs : Ana Ortega Olivencia ; Juan Antonio Devesa Alcaraz (1955-) Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : 185-202 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : [CBNPMP-Thématique] Systématique, taxonomie Mots-clés : Scrophularia sp. Résumé : A new species of the genus Scrophularia, S. fontqueri Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa, is described for the Western Rif mountains in Morocco. Similarities and differences with the most closely related species (S. auriculata Loefl. ex L. and S. viciosoi Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa) are indicated, and ecological and distribution data are provided. The new species displays a high degree of polyploidy (2n = 56), and has palynological characteristics similar to those of other species in this genus. The new species shows protogynous dichogamy and produces considerable amounts of nectar in both sexual phases. Nectar secretion was maximum during the early hours of the morning. Mean longevity of the flowers was 2.66 days. Both nectar secretion and floral longevity correlated strongly with mean daytime air temperature. Pollination experiments showed that interaction with pollinators is necessary for reproduction, and gametophytic homomorphic self-incompatibility was documented. This feature was confirmed by observation of pollen tubes after hand self-pollination. The seed/ovule ratio was very low.
